Overview:
The purpose of this experiment was to “examine the effects of architectural design on music performed in different spaces”. We selected a short musical excerpt from the introduction of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by Led Zeppelin, from the album Led Zeppelin IV. The same excerpt was performed on the same acoustic guitar by the same performer in each acoustic space so as to implement a reasonable uniformity in the test signal of the experiment. The field recordings were made with a Zoom H4n Handy Recorder. The three acoustic spaces were selected by considering how their respective acoustic properties would present audibly distinctive results.
